Postpartum Series with Julie Spencer

I have been encouraging women for years to come to post-partum physical therapy, and I am coming to the realization that no one knows why they should! Here’s why: over the course of 9 months your body learns different adaptive strategies to make up for natural changes during pregnancy, but these do not automatically change back to the way it was before you had a baby. 

Whether you lose your baby weight or you don’t, we have to teach our muscles how to work the way they used to. Nobody realizes this and nobody tells us this, but I DO! 

The steps to help you get that body back to working the way it once did are easy and will help you avoid future problems, even years down the line: incontinence, painful intercourse, even back and hip pain during household, work and fitness activities; thing you may not feel now but you will later on. 


In just 6  simple visits, I can teach you all you need to know to get your body working better for you than it ever has before.

VISIT 1: TELL ME YOUR STORY
I want to hear all about your pregnancy, your labor, and your delivery. I want to hear about the good, bad, ugly and beautiful. This is where you can let it all hang out, quite literally. You will undergo a postural screen and learn about all the amazing ways your body has gotten you to this point, and how we are going to guide its recovery to the best version of you. 
{As a bonus, we’ll discuss any scarring (maybe even more than just the physical ones!) that are left as a result of that beautiful baby and how we can address those so they don’t leave any lasting effects.}

VISIT 2: JUST BREATHE (because when is the last time you actually did?)
Your breath is the foundation for everything. So I am going to make sure you are doing it right (b/c trust me, most of us don't). You're also going to learn how to find and wake up the muscles in your lower abdomen. I promise they are still there! 

VISIT 3: RESTORE YOUR CORE
You may have heard about the dreaded diastasis recti or abdominal separation. During this visit, I will assess your abdominal muscles and we will learn whether or not you have one. we will either begin to restore it or make sure it doesn't happen to you!

VISIT 4: YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM-THE PELVIC GIRDLE
Pregnancy has the same effect on your pelvis as stepping off the curb the wrong way has on your ankle. Again and again. For 9 months. Your pelvis is the foundation of all movements of your legs and spine. So we want to make sure that your muscles that have been working for you one way during pregnancy remember how to work TOGETHER provide stability as your pelvis heals after pregnancy. 

VISIT 5: WHEN THE SPINE ALIGNS
Here we will work on the upper half of your core, your postural muscles, thoracic spine, shoulder girdle and rib cage. If we don’t align the upper half of our core, the lower parts will never work the way they need to.  

VISIT 6:  (OPTIONAL) YOUR PELVIC FLOOR
Yes, this is optional, but it's highly recommended. Your pelvic floor has gone through hell and back to support your body during pregnancy and for obvious reasons during delivery (yes, even during a c-section). Restoring the pelvic floor now will significantly decrease your chances of incontinence, even years down the line as well as ensure a comfortable return to intimacy.

Prepaid all 6 visits: $500
Recommend 6 visits in 6 weeks but can be adjusted based on scheduling needs.

Visits are 1 hour in duration, entire visit is 1 on 1 with Julie.
Participating in the program entitles participant a free consult with Pilates instructor, acupuncturist, counselor and nutritionist.
